OUR IMPACT
MEASURE OF SUCCESS
We determined at the beginning of the year that we would use a number of metrics to measure our success in helping an artist’s audience grow. We plan to report on longer term measures of success in the future. In the short term, we measure lift in Spotify Monthly Listeners (SMLs) because it is the most immediate and indicative metric to measure audience growth. Here is the calculation:
Lift In Spotify Monthly Listeners
(Calculated by: (A-B)/B)
Where A = pre-Tiro #SMLs & B = post-Tiro #SMLs
This measures the increase, expressed as a %, in an artist’s SMLs from a pre-release baseline to a post-release point of comparison. Since SMLs are calculated, by Spotify, on a 28-day rolling basis, our baselines and comparisons are somewhat subjective. Accordingly, we’ve provided ranges and graphs that show a year’s worth of data to help readers draw their own conclusions as well.
OVERALL IMPACT
Between 213% & 410% average lift in SMLs
When we combine both artists’ baselines and comparisons to calculate an average lift in SMLs, we see our impact across artists. This gives a general view on the average impact of our activities and sets a baseline for what the organization can expect in the future. The range of lift in SMLs can be understood in more detail below.
KUINA IMPACT
Between 197% & 410% lift in SMLS
KUINA, in comparison to Alblack, was a slightly more established when we started working with her. Therefore, it’s extremely rewarding to see that the artist’s lift in SMLs was not impacted by nuances of scale. We are quite impressed with the results.
Self Releases
Tiro Record Releases
The baseline is measured from artist’s latest self-release prior to Tiro Records’ Release. We Provide a range of lift because it’s unknowable to understand Tiro Records’ impact on the Lift in SMLs from 10,298 to 20,237 SMLs .
Albalck IMPACT
A 249% Lift In SMLs
While it would seem as if Alblack had not been active through most of 2023, the artist participated in many releases as part of other groups or as a featured artist on other artists’ albums. Therefore, he is not credited for those releases despite his activity.

Considerations & Conclusions
While we’ve outlined our impact in the that artists’ lift in SMLs, it’s worth noting that releasing music that people like will have an impact, and the artists’ have their own role and contribution to the lift in SMLs. Trying to understand exactly who contributed to the lift in SMLs might be impossible. We feel it’s an irrelevant task in any case. Our point of view is everyone worked as a team to drive impact and has an equal share in the artists’ success.
If the data were to show mediocre results and little increase from the artists’ baselines, we’d feel that Tiro Records didn’t have an impact and that our hypothesis and mission might need to be tweaked. However, we are proud and impressed by the results we were able to achieve collectively in just our first year and look forward to continuing our mission to help other artists in 2024.
Sincerely,
Tiro Records
The baseline is measured from artist’s first Tiro Records release and the point of comparison is measured by the peak of SMLs after the artist’s last Tiro Records release.
